Blackcap Warblers

As an update to my earlier post today. My close watch for the Blackcap warbler seen at mid morning certainly paid off. At around 1330 I saw a male bird, very close to the house and moving amongst the cotoneaster bushes and Ivy. As I watched and tried for a good photo I could hear a sweet trilling song. It was evidently coming from him as I could see his throated puffed out. As I continued to watch I saw that he was feeding on Ivy Berries. Eventually he took up a position where I could get the photo. Not quite what I wanted with the profile but you can clearly see his extended throat as he sings his song. I have not seen any more sign of the female again but now I know they are about I may be able to get a photo of her. If you are not familiar with British Birds it is worth pointing out that Blackcaps are one of only 2 species of Warbler that are known to over-winter in the UK, the other being the Chiffchaff. They are restricted to the South and South West of England in the winter. I don't think that it could be described as a rare occurrence to have them visit the garden but not a particularly common event either, so we are very fortunate.
