July 30th, my birthday as it happens was a great day. Firstly the weather was great at last. Pretty much sunny the whole day and I took advantage and went out to the marsh to get some real wildlife watching and photography in at last. There was a magical 30 minutes around lunchtime when I saw and/or photographed 7 butterfly species. I watched Labrynth Spiders - Agelena labyrinthica, (photos to follow, check back) various hoverflies and 3 species of Dragonflies. With my Bat Detector which is basically a gadget for detecting High Frequency sounds, I discovered a lovely large black cricket. This was fun because even though I couldn't hear it with my "naked" ear it made a noise through the gadget like a Chinook helicopter and you were able to home in on it, it is real fun and I am looking forward to doing it again.
I took a magnificent photo of a two Common Darters - Sympetrum striolatum
