I sat for ages trying to get a picture of flying Swallows this evening but I didn't manage to get even a half decent photo of them. In the end I gave up and decided to come home. As I walked back to the car the light was so amazing, the sun was low and lit up the bank opposite with glorious golden light. Apart from the Swallows, I hadn't seen one bird at the pool, a few near misses though, for example I heard Redpolls singing very nearby and I was hoping they would come down but unfortunately, not on this occasion. I was really surprised when I came out of the now dull valley in to the light, to see how many Stonechat and Whinchat there were. I couldn't get close but I did get a couple of nice "pictures" and even though this one above is cropped it works quite well. I have told you before about the Highland Cattle that are roaming this year, very picturesque and they looked great in the low sun.
