Cattle Egrets are a rare species in the UK. In mainland Europe particularly Southern France and the Iberian peninsular they a relatively common.
This is a species that I have photographed in 3 different countries including the UK and I am always very pleased when I see them. They can be quite confiding in my experience but will fly away strongly when they feel threatened. The oddest place that I have seen one was a Sunday morning in Miami, in the flowerbeds in the middle of Lincoln Rd during a busy street market.
