We are still being visited from time to time by Goldfinches attracted by the Sunflower Hearts. If you want to almost guarantee visitors to your bird feeders then I can absolutely recommend Sunflower Hearts in an open wire feeder, a great combination which outscores the commercial "posh" plastic feeders over and over again. July is a very quiet time for all kinds of birds, nesting is probably still going on but birds are very subdued in July. Migration has not begun yet and birds are generally resting after the early summers exertions and will sit around quietly out of sight and don't generally sing territorial songs at this time of year. There is always an exception and Blackbirds will still sing from time to time.

This picture was taken in very dim light almost out of boredom and really just to see if the new Pentax lens can perform in dullish light. I am sure that we are going to get lots of those conditions in the Autumn.
Just checking this date last year, I note that the weather was a little cloudy and rainy, pretty much the same as today. Also in this week last year, Spoonbill arrived on Exminster Marsh so that would be nice if that repeated it's self. So perhaps we are in for a treat this week after all. That is the beauty of birdwatching and wildlife , you never know what to expect next.
