Remarkably this morning the Goldcrest, seen bathing yesterday, arrived at the same time of day, to the minute, and bathed in the same puddle. Today though, I was closer than before and I managed to get a couple of good photos but I am sure that I will be able to get better and better ones. As I sat watching the birds coming and going to the food, a Goldcrest was singing in the trees above me so they are obviously quite common in the wood.
The Greater Spotted Woodpecker female that has taken a real shine to the nuts was constantly coming to get one. At first I was sat in the hide but decided to see if I could get a different perspective if I came out of the hide and sat in a new spot. I needed to camouflage myself a little bit at least before the Woodpecker plucked up the courage to come down, and it wasn't long before she was there and giving me a glorious show. I need to take advantage of this Woodpecker and my next challenge is to try and get some acceptable shots of the bird in flight and in between today's great football matches, that's exactly what I plan to try today.
I probably won't be posting for a day or so after this entry. I am off to Minorca for the week, leaving tomorrow. It's not strictly speaking a birding trip but I am taking my gear and will expect to have some nice Mediterranean species to post for you.
