I had a pleasant but coldcouple of hours today waiting for the Buzzard to come and watching and photographing the small birds as they constantly came in to the feed. I have said all there is to say about Nuthatches except just to point out that this one (above) is probably a male. This can be told by the darker markings on the flanks. This one below is probably a female, there is a noticeable difference.
I have been seeing this bird at my feeders since last September and taken numerous photographs. I have no idea what has caused the feather problems. You would imagine that it is hard for this bird to keep warm durin the colder nights but so far it is surviving OK.
