I lay on the ground with the sun behind me and starting to get lower in the sky. I had seen these Spurfowl earlier in the afternoon and I wanted to photograph them because they were a new species to me. There was a small group of 5 or 6 and they were quite confiding, apparently this is usual for this species. As they walked towards me, feeding as they wentl, they were giving me interesting photoes at this low perspective. I became aware of their beutifully marked plumage which wasn't really noticeable until the sun picked out the detail. Suddenly one of the birds, and as it happened, the one that I was photographing at the time, shook out it's feathers. The effect was stunning and the finished image was amazing.
