I am away in Yorkshire this weekend and I had the opportunity at the end of the day to go out on to Saddleworth Moor where I had seen Short Eared Owl in previous years. No sign of them today but it was a good, if short outing. It's always nice to be in new areas where you may see something that you don't normally see. I was photographing willow Warblers, a common bird in Devon at the moment of course when suddenly a bird flew in to perch at the top of a nearby tree. I thought it was a Chaffinch at first because all I saw innitially was a hint of red. When I trained the camera on it I was thrilled to see a Lesser Redpoll! This is a bird that I dont get to photograph very often and I was very happy to see and photograph it. They appear to be just a little more common in this part of the world although there are parts of Devon where you can see them easily. As a bird that I dont see often I grasped the opportunity with both hands.
