It's more of the same so far today. Sunrise here, being close to the equator, is around 7 all year round but at the time the temperature is hot already, well in to the 80's. I had problems this morning when I left the air conditioned apartment my optics all immediately steamed up and it was an hour before it cleared. I will need to do something a bit different if this is not going to be a big problem. Probably keep the cameras in cool bags or something similar. So this morning, as I sat on a bench near the beach waiting for the misted lens to clear it was quite interesting to watch the birds in the trees surrounding the little library building. The conures flew in again just like yesterday and then I discovered a new bird for me. At first I had no idea what it was but I have identified it as a female House Finch, a common bird in the rest of the US but not here apparently, but they are becoming more so.
The Mockingbirds appear to be territorial, it was interesting to watch them feeding this morning on the short grassy areas. As they fed they would flash their white wing epaulettes obviously the way that they communicate with others of their species.
There is definitely a dirth of small birds here at this time of the year, so far I havent even seen a warbler, woodpecker or vireo which is a bit disappointing. I did expect to see the trees full of small birds but as the days go by perhaps that will change. However, Mockingbirds are very noticeable.
