Jenny and i visited Bovey Castle for a late afternoon meal earlier this week. This is a former Manor House and now a hotel, a magnificent establishment that is set in glorious grounds surrounded by natural lakes and a golf course close to Mortonhampstead and smack in the middle of the Dartmoor Natural Park. The Wikipedia entry does not do justice to this establishment, there is no mention of the glorious views, the wide open spaces and the high level of service on offer. We walked in the grounds for a while and sat in a peaceful spot in perfect silence with only the sound of birds and the occasional buzz of a distant mower. Dozens of Pied Wagtails fed on the short mown grass and Goldcrests,Coal Tits and Great Spotted Woodpecker were nearby. I wanted to include this iPhone image which shows the Manor House reflected in the water. This is quite a special place and well worth a visit.
